Paul S. Devrouax, Jr. Memorial Lecture

The Paul S. Devrouax, Jr.  Memorial Lecture presented a talk on the science of aquaponics and how the built environment will bring this not so new age technology into the 21st century.

 

 

Brenda Devrouax, B.S., M.T., spoke to the biology of aquaponics, and Architect Karen Starika, L.E.E.D., of Luxor LLC, talked about the built environment.  This represented a middle school version of our fall lecture “Architecture meets Aquaponics”.

 

Ken Wyner of Ken M Wyner Photography, Inc. presented an interactive session on how photography compliments architecture.  His hands on approach was captivating and expanded with a talk on the science of "painting with light", and his photography.

 

PSDML then took the students to the Building Museum, where they heard a docent led tour of the Hot to Cold Exhibit: an odyssey of architectural adaptation that explores how design solutions are shaped by cultural and climatic contexts. They saw more than 60 three dimensional models suspended at the second-floor balcony of the Museum’s Great Hall.

 

They then dove into THE BEACH, an architectural installation that brings the quintessential summer experience of going to the beach to downtown Washington, D.C. Spanning across the Museum’s Great Hall, the BEACH, created in partnership with Snarkitecture, covers 10,000 square feet and includes an “ocean” of nearly one million recyclable translucent plastic balls.
